KnowledgeLake, which offers an AI-driven software platform for document processing and content management, has a new CEO a year after landing a $65 million investment.
The Town & Country-based company said that Billy Biggs was appointed as its new CEO, effective Tuesday. He most recently was president and chief revenue officer of Tysons, Virginia-based TechnoMile, a software-as-a-service platform serving companies that contract with government entities. Biggs will be based in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area, a spokesperson said.
He succeeds Kevin Herr, KnowledgeLake’s longtime COO and CFO who was named CEO in August last year.
Herr’s appointment had coincided with KnowledgeLake’s announcement of a $65 million investment led by Edison Partners, a Nashville, Tennessee-based investment firm, with participation by members of management and shareholders.
A spokesperson said Herr is no longer with the company and referred to a Tuesday news release for more information. Officials said in the release that Herr “led KnowledgeLake through a period of substantial growth and operational maturation, culminating in the company’s strategic partnership with Edison Partners.”
“We’re grateful to Kevin for his years of helping to build KnowledgeLake into the durable business it is today,” Ben Laufer, principal with Edison Partners, said in the release. “Billy’s track record building go-to-market engines for AI-powered enterprise software will extend our lead in automating the mission-critical, document-intensive work organizations depend on getting right — and we’re proud to back the team delivering it, “
Biggs, in his role at TechnoMile, which he joined in October 2024, led its growth strategy across AI-powered enterprise software, workflow automation and market intelligence solutions, officials said.
Prior to TechnoMile, Biggs had held roles as general manager of regulated industries and enterprise for San Francisco-based WalkMe, developer of a platform to speed users’ software proficiency, and general manager and vice president of public sector and healthcare for Cornerstone OnDemand, a Santa Monica, California, human resources management software firm, according to LinkedIn. He also had held posts with GP Strategies Corp. and BlackBerry, both in Washington, D.C., among others.
Biggs holds a bachelor’s degree in information systems management and an MBA from Salisbury University in Maryland.
KnowledgeLake, founded in 1999, is based at 555 Maryville University Drive. It has 60 employees companywide, three-quarters of whom are based locally, according to the spokesperson.
The company says its AI-driven platform brings together document capture, processing, workflow and governance. Its customers include Washington University; the states of Kentucky, Tennessee and Rhode Island; Lorain County, Ohio; Databank; and US Imaging, according to the release.
